Dozens of passengers injured, one dead

A Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok on Saturday after hitting severe turbulence.

The plane, carrying 239 passengers and 12 crew members, was about four hours into its flight when it encountered the turbulence.

According to passengers, the plane dropped suddenly, sending passengers and crew flying. Overhead luggage compartments were ripped open and debris flew through the cabin.

One passenger, a 73-year-old British man, died from his injuries. Dozens of other passengers were injured, some seriously.

The plane landed safely in Bangkok, where the injured passengers were taken to hospital.

The cause of the turbulence is under investigation.
