Armed Palestinian group infiltrates Israeli territory
Gaza City, Palestine - October 7, 2022 - The Palestinian armed group Hamas launched a surprise attack into Israel on Thursday, in one of the most serious escalations of violence between the two sides in recent years. The attack began early in the morning when Hamas gunmen infiltrated Israeli territory near the border with Gaza.
Israeli military responds with ground invasion
The Israeli military responded to the attack by launching a ground invasion of Gaza. Five combat brigades were deployed, and the Israeli Air Force carried out airstrikes against Hamas targets. The fighting has resulted in the deaths of at least 20 Palestinians and one Israeli soldier.
Hamas's long-term strategy
